Where Does Illinois Rank Among Fashion Forward States?
This Friday, June 30, is National Outfit of the Day (OOTD) Day. The idea comes from the #OOTD hashtag popularized by Instagram users worldwide who sought to show off their fashion prowess — but its “holiday” status is owed to celebrity influencer and reality TV star Stassi Schroeder.
In 2018, the “Vanderpump Rules” cast member paid $40,000 to register June 30 for the Outfit of the Day occasion to be included on NationalDayCalendar.com. It was a promotional push ahead of the release of her first book. Schroeder later learned that her money only paid to recognize the holiday for one year — but the occasion has lived on via social media.
To celebrate National OOTD Day, IllinoisBet.com took a break from reviewing Illinois sports betting apps to determine what US states are the most fashionable.
Using data from Cosmopolitan, FarFetch and PrepScholar, plus the winner of America’s Next Top Model, we created a weighted points system that ranks the most fashionable states. Points were awarded to states home to top fashion universities, ANTM winners, famous fashion designers and popular opinion.

Illinois Ties For Sixth Among Fashionable States
Illinois finds itself in a four-way tie for sixth most fashionable state in the country. No surprise, New York and California listed in the top two spots.
Among its most fashionable residents, Illinois has produced three of the 24 winners of “America’s Next Top Model” — including the inaugural champion, Adrianne Curry. The 40-year-old former reality TV show star, who now goes by Adrianne Curry-Rhode, was born in Joliet.
The other two ANTM winners from Illinois are Jaslene Gonzalez, who was born in Puerto Rico but grew up in Chicago, and Lake Forest native McKey Sullivan. You can't get Illinois sports betting odds on America's Next Top Model like you can on sporting events.
Even with those "Top Model" winners, designer Virgil Abloh might be the most fashionable Illinoisan of all time. Known for blending luxury clothes with a streetwear aesthetic, Abloh launched his label Off-White in 2013 in Milan, Italy. His rise in the world of international fashion continued when he became Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of menswear in 2018. No African-American man had ever held such a prominent role in luxury fashion before Abloh.
Sadly, Abloh died of a rare form of cancer on Nov. 28, 2021. Earlier this year, Off-White teamed with the Chicago Bulls to release a capsule collection, including a varsity jacket in two colorways featuring a unique logo. The release is meant to pay tribute to Abloh and his love of basketball, fashion and Chicago.
