The Major League Baseball regular season is less than 25 days away from first pitch and the Chicago White Sox are looking for a better first month than they have had in recent years.
Devoted, suffering fans and sharp people at Illinois sportsbooks know that April has been the cruelest month for the White Sox. Just how bad has it been?
IlinoisBet.com decided to see how the White Sox have played during the various months of the season. Using Baseball-Reference.com, we pulled the records from the past three years from Chicago’s AL team. Here are the best and worst months:
This is a breakdown from IllinoisBet.com and won’t be found on the many fine Illinois betting apps.
Based on the data, the start of the season has not been a very good month for Chicago. The White Sox have played just .403 ball in April (29-43). April is their worst month for wins and win/loss percentage.
However, the next two months - May (49-36, .576) and June (39-39, .500) - are their best months. July (37-39, .487), August (39-45, .464) and September (36-44, .450) bring about three straight months of under .500 ball.
The White Sox open their 2024 season by hosting the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, March 28. They then will host the Atlanta Braves in a three-game series (April 1-3), before embarking on a seven-game road trip to the Kansas City Royals (April 4-7) and Cleveland Guardians (April 8-10).
